I always wanted to paint the block wall that faces the house and yard. That's Mike in June 2011 priming it for me. We also decided to take out the old door because it was falling apart and we didn't use it. I had to incorporate the rough concrete foundation and a piece of siding on the upper left into my design. The door on the front of the "real" garage matches the dimensions in the painting. I made the sun shadows where they would be on the fall and spring equinox at midday so they match the rest of the yard at that time.
After all the planning, I laid out all of the lines with strings, levels and a plummet. I went and bought high quality exterior latex paint in white, black, bright red, yellow, blue and green and half of a can of brown that we already had. I mixed the colors in jars and started painting.
I painted through 30+ mile an hour winds, 112 degree heat and even had a snake sneak up on me once (5ft blacksnake I was sitting on the ground painting the oil can, he was underneath the yellow butterfly we scared the #$&$ out of each other then he turned around and left) I got to see two does raise their fawns in our yard that summer. They were so used to me they walked around the side of the garage and grazed while I painted.
The rooster in the painting is named Spooky. He used to follow me around like a dog and he wouldn't back down from anything , even bobcats.
